Where we work
BULGARIA
Due to border closures and militarization in Hungary and Croatia, the so-called Balkan route is increasingly shifting to Bulgaria. In response, the Bulgarian-Greek and Bulgarian-Turkish borders have also been heavily reinforced in recent years. Frontex is also active here with brutal force and terrible pushbacks.
Reception prospects and integration rates in the country are very poor, meaning that Bulgaria remains a transit country. Refugees repeatedly report experiences of violence and imprisonment. Medical care for refugees is also completely inadequate there. We provide basic support to people on the move in need at two locations in Bulgaria.
Varna
In Varna we work together with cooperation partners and we provide basic care for people who have left the war zones in Ukraine. They are suffering from poor housing and living conditions in Bulgaria. Most of the people we see come from Mariupol, Odessa and other parts of eastern Ukraine. For this we have mobile equipment and vehicles to visit those people in their shelters, as well as various as rooms in some shelters.
Services we offer:
- Primary healthcare support and accompaniment in the Bulgarian health system
- Wound care
- Referral to more advanced medical services, dental work and psychological support
Our team brings together professionals, coordinators, interpreters, and members of the local community to provide support where it is needed.
GREECE
Due to its geographical location at the eastern border of the European Union, Greece has been an important arrival point for refugees and migrants seeking safety and a new future in Europe for many years. Many people reach Greece after crossing the Aegean Sea from Turkey.
As access to basic social and health-related support remains limited for many people on the move, we have established several locations across Greece to provide information, orientation, social support and practical assistance to people in difficult situations.
Our projects are not medical facilities. We do not provide medical examinations, we help people understand their options and connect them with appropriate medical, social and public services. In case of health concerns or emergencies, we refer and, where needed, accompany people to qualified professionals and appropriate services.
Athens
In Athens, we support around 400 people each month, mainly people from Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Greece. Since 2025, our main base has been the VCC, our own space in the centre of Athens. At the same time, we continue to offer activities in partner spaces across the city, visit camps in the Attica region, make home visits and accompany people to medical services when needed.
Our work focuses on information, social support, orientation and access to appropriate services. Through workshops and information sessions, we share knowledge on health, first aid and other topics relevant to everyday life. We also offer activities such as stretching and movement, creating space for wellbeing, connection and exchange.
Another important part of our work is street outreach. Together with partner organisations, we reach people who often face barriers to accessing healthcare and social services, including people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use or involvement in prostitution. We provide basic support, information and orientation and connect people with appropriate specialised services. We make around 100 referrals each month.

Kos
Kos is home to one of Greece’s Closed Controlled Access Centres (CCACs), where newly arrived people often face difficult living conditions and limited access to basic support and services.
In our own space, located close to the camp, we provide a welcoming and accessible place for information, orientation and practical support. We help people navigate available services, connect them with appropriate medical, social and public institutions and, when needed, accompany them to relevant services.
Practical support is also an important part of our work. We offer access to laundry facilities, as well as first aid and health-related information and workshops. Through these activities, we aim to respond to immediate needs while helping people find their way through the local support system.
